About us

The nearest bank should not be an hour away

We build the services that let a trusted local shop do the small, everyday banking jobs people would otherwise lose half a day travelling for.

Why we exist

A branch closure is somebody's whole morning

When a branch shuts or a cash machine sits empty, the cost does not land evenly. It lands on the pensioner who now takes two buses to collect a payment, on the daily-wage worker who cannot lose a morning, on the family that needs cash before the shops close.

Meanwhile there is already a shop on that street that everybody knows and comes back to. Our work is to let that shop offer the handful of services people actually need — and to make sure it does so properly, because trust here is local and it does not survive being broken twice.

We are not trying to replace banks. We are trying to close the last mile between a bank account and the person who owns it.

How we work

Four commitments we hold ourselves to

The customer comes first, including over our own counters

If a counter is overcharging or misleading people, it loses access. A network is only worth having if the people using it are safe.

Say plainly when the answer is no

If a shop is not going to earn enough to be worth the effort, we say so on the first call rather than sign them up and let them find out.

Keep a record that survives scrutiny

Every service leaves something that can be looked up, questioned and reconciled — months later, by someone who was not there.

Answer the phone

A counter with a customer waiting needs a person, not a ticket number and a three-day wait.

What we do not do

Being clear about the edges

A short list, because knowing what something is not is usually more useful than another page of what it is.

We do not hold customer deposits

Money stays with the customer's own bank. We are the counter it reaches them through, not a place it sits.

We do not lend

No loans, no credit, no advances against a counter's earnings.

We do not let counters sign themselves up

Every service point is checked and approved by a person before it can serve anybody.

We do not sell customer information

What we hold exists to complete a service and answer questions about it afterwards. That is all.

Want to talk to someone here?

Whether you are a shopkeeper, a distributor, or a customer with a question about a counter — we would rather hear from you.
